Creatures with wings are created from a blend of techniques and spontanity. Sculpted from the inside out around a custom wire armature, the forms emerge.  The art of needle felting which involves repeatedly stabbing the fibres with a fine barbed needle to interlock the wool is used to create a firm dense form. A palette of blended fibres including wools, silk and/or plants are used to ‘paint’ lifelike colors and textures.  Keen eyes are crafted using several fine layers of fibre or the placement of a dark gem stone. Beaks and talons are shaped with wool layered with bespoke sculpting wax or hardner. Realistic feathers are wet-felted with details to replicate natural markings and attached individually with larger feathers crafted on a bespoke wire flute. By combining intricate craftmanship with each element and the use of found objects, imaginings are brought to life.
