Hawks

Fibre sculped hawks are crafted with fine wool and silk fibre on a hand-built wire armature to create a lifelike structure. The bodies are formed using the art of needle felting which involves repeatedly stabbing the fibres with a special barbed needle to interlock the wool and create a firm dense form. The eyes, talons and beaks are created using fine layers of fibre, giving the hawk a realistic appearance. Wings and feathers are wet-felted with details to replicate natural markings and attached individually. The larger feathers are crafted on a wire flute. Each element, from the sharp gaze of the eyes to the intricate patterns on the feathers showcases the artists’ ability to capture the essence of these majestic birds.
